Don't fool yourself - the vast majority of would-be internet marketers haven't made a dime. And that's usually because they're focusing on stuff that doesn't work (or matter). |
Web Site Promotion Internet Marketing
Web site promotion internet marketing isn't just about getting your content in front of the eyes of the billions of people using the internet. The whole point is to get your content in front of the eyes of people that are looking for that exact information. If you can do that, you'll succeed.
There two basic types of promotion in internet marketing: free and paid. Each has its good points and bad, but a combination of the two usually ends up with excellent results.
Some free promotion methods:
- Search engine optimization (link building, on site seo)
- Participating in forums related to your niche (becoming an authority)
- Visiting and commenting on blogs related to your niche
- Making a related report of ebook with quality information and uploading it to Torrent sites
- Posting related videos to YouTube
- Submitting your site to SEO friendly directories
- Writing related articles and submitting them to sites like EzineArticles and Issuu
- Utilizing Twitter and Facebook to build brand recognition (without spamming)
Some paid promotion methods:
- Google Adwords (PPC, also Yahoo Search Marketing and Microsoft AdCenter)
- Banner advertising
- Ezine advertising
- YouTube advertising
- StumbleUpon paid stumbles
- Sponsor blog posts
- Facebook PPC or CPM ads
When you're first starting out, you usually can't afford much of the paid options. That's ok - the free options are every bit as effective (for the most part), but they take a lot more time and effort. It's a trade off - if you don't have money, you're going to need to put in the time.
Ideally, you want to get to the place where you can pay for some internet marketing promotion and do the rest yourself. Then, when you start to see results, you can outsource a lot of the free options for a small fee.
Another important thing to consider is that some methods work well for some types of sites and niches, and some methods don't work so well. You really have to try to fine tune these techniques for your particlular site. I know it sounds like a pain, and I felt the same way when I first learned this, but believe me, it's really not as hard as it sounds. You just have to be patient. Keep reminding yourself that you don't see results immediately. If you want to try a promotion technique out, give it at least a month before deciding whether or not it's effective.
Whatever you do, don't get complacent. No matter how good you think your site is doing, it can always fall. If you don't keep promoting it and keep updating it, it will grow stale and people will lose interest. That's why you see sites like Facebook still doing paid advertisments. Everyone already knows what Facebook is, and they want to keep it that way.
