Don't fool yourself - the vast majority of would-be internet marketers haven't made a dime. And that's usually because they're focusing on stuff that doesn't work (or matter). |
Internet Marketing Search Engine Placement
Internet marketing search engine placement can mean several things, but it's usually one of two: It's most likely referring to organic search results, which are the non paid listings that Google and the other search engines display when a term is searched for. These are meant to be earned, and because of that they can't be paid for. This is good for those that want to enjoy a very large amount of traffic without having to pay for it. However, you do have to pay for it in a way, as you constantly have to provide the users with exactly what they're looking for in order to remain in the top.
The other method is the paid results, which are the sponsor results you see on the top and side margins of search results. These have a small element of earning the position, but really they're all about how much you're willing to pay.
Which one is right for your website? That all depends. If you're trying to make money with Google Adsene by providing useful information to people, you don't want to waste your time with PPC (pay per click). You need all your traffic to be free in order to make a decent profit. On the other hand, if you're trying to make money with affiliate marketing or CPA marketing, you could benefit from using both.
They both have their pros and cons, so take that into account. The free results are great because they're very affordable. They're also very targeted traffic if they're coming from Google, Yahoo, or Bing. They don't have to be extremely precise, which PPC ads do. However, free results take a while to achieve (often a couple months, depending on how competitive your keywords are and how well you know what you're doing).
Paid results are great for instant feedback. You won't have to wait to see if visitors like your contact. You can send them to your site pretty quickly. You also don't have to spend a lot of time on SEO or building up a huge site if you're paying for the traffic. You can just throw up a quick squeeze page and send people to it. However, the minute you stop paying for the traffic, the minute it stops. Also, if you're not careful, you can throw away a lot of money. You need to constantly test your ads and that can be a lot of work.
In the end, though, you're going to have to test things out. I know, I hate that word, "test." We want results and we want them now, we don't want to have to fail and try different things. However, if you really want to succeed you're just going to have to test different things out and give them some time to truly find out what will work and what won't. There's no other way around it.
