Don't fool yourself - the vast majority of would-be internet marketers haven't made a dime. And that's usually because they're focusing on stuff that doesn't work (or matter). |
Internet Marketing Affiliate Program
Which internet marketing affiliate program are you interested in? There are several out there, so it can seem daunting at first. What you don't want to do is go to every single one and sign up for them. You'll just overwhelm yourself with all the networks and not be very focused. What you want to do is pick one (I recommend Clickbank because they're very user friendly and the most popular affiliate network around) and sign up with it. Check out what products they have for you to promote. Here's a list for you to look into:
- Clickbank - www.clickbank.com
- Commission Junction - www.cj.com
- Affiliate Window - www.affiliatewindow.com
- Sharesale - www.sharesale.com
- Linkshare - www.linkshare.com
- Amazon - www.amazon.com
There are several others as well, but there's really no point to joining multiple affiliate networks at once. Keep in mind that it is good, however, to join one for digital products (like Clickbank or Commission Junction) and one for physical products (like Amazon). The only problem with Amazon is that they make payments quarterly, where Clickbank pays every two weeks (assuming you've hit the $100 threshold).
Something to keep in mind also is the fact that affiliate marketing is very, very hard. If you're new to internet marketing, I would advise against trying to start with it. It's extremely competitive and you have to constantly be on the move, where with programs like Google Adsense is better for beginners.
However, if you really want to get started with it, I commend you. My advice is to find one product that is selling well and build a site around it. Then you have to build up that site with useful articles and content. The important thing to remember here is that it will take a long time for it to get any traffic. Of course, that's assuming you know how to promote it properly. If you keep building articles and content to the site though, and stick with it for months, you'll start to see some results.
If you're anything like I was when I first started though, you'll want to make money yesterday. I would literally try something for a day or two and then move onto the next thing. That's why it took me over 4 years to make any money online. You have to pick something and be dedicated to it. Don't do multiple things unless you can devote a decent amount of time to each one.
And most importantly of all, don't ever give up.
